One thing I’ve been trying to do is increasing my calcium intake since I’ve been slacking to drink milk or eat yogurt since I become lactose. Which is sad, but it’s taught me to learn about different alternatives to dairy. What’s awesome is that almond milk & non-dairy items may have twice the calcium of regular milk, which is a plus!
I recently discovered Siggi’s yogurt at Whole Foods. After trying it once, I loved it. However, it’s not lactose free but it’s one of the two milk yogurts my stomach can actually handle. It’s not a runny yogurt, more like a “yogurt spread”. It won’t spill out of it’s container if you were to flip it over. That’s why I decided to put it on my toast one day & since then, I’ve been having a toast with yogurt & bananas on top for breakfast (along with my staple peanut butter banana toast). It’s so dang good..
To make the toast:
-1/2 container Siggi (any flavor you like)
-1/2 banana (use other half as a topping for another toast :P)
-1 Ezekiel 4:9 sliced bread
Recommendation: Try to toast your slice of bread until it’s pretty hard and toasty! The yogurt may cause it to be flimsy if you wait too long to eat it after putting the yogurt on. This is because the toast is hot & the yogurt is pretty cold so it’ll chill the toast making it not crispy anymore somewhat quickly. Toasting it longer will help keep it warm and crispy before you devour 🙂
Here’s 1/2 small container Acai flavored Siggi on Ezekiel toast with 1/2 a banana on top. Then I proceeded to put more yogurt on top of the bananas which made it even better. I couldn’t resist. I’ve had Peach, blueberry, acai & pomegranate flavored Siggi. I have a goal to try them all at least once. My current favorite is pomegranate ^_^
A typical breakfast meal for me.
-2 serving grains, 1 serving fruit, 1 serving fat & 1/2 serving dairy.
With a cup of green tea!
I’ve also also tried the yogurt toast topped with almonds & cacao nibs but it wasn’t as good as being topped with bananas. The topping gives it a nice crunch though!
