Overnight oatmeal and toast are two of my favorite quick breakfast options! I decided to upgrade my oatmeal this week and soak it with strawberry kefir instead of my usual almond milk. It was so creamy and filling!
What is kefir?
Kefir is a cultured, fermented beverage very similar to a yogurt smoothie. It is made using a “starter”, which is a combination of yeast, milk proteins and “friendly good-for-you”. bacteria. The flavor tends to be more tart and tangy. This strawberry kefir is loaded with 12 live probiotics cultures!
1. Helps promote a healthy immune system.
Probiotics can boost your immune system by preventing the growth of harmful bacteria in your gut! Your gut health and immune system really come hand in hand. About 80% of your immune tissue is in your digestive tract!
2. Helps balance the bacteria in your digestive tract.
Probiotics are live microorganisms and also known as “good” bacteria. The benefits are known to restore and maintain the balance of healthy gut bacteria. In times of illness or poor diet, an imbalance may occur resulting in more bad bacteria than good bacteria. This leads to possible health problems or digestive issues. Therefore, it’s important to consume proper amounts of probiotics!
That’s why I decided to soak my oatmeal with this strawberry kefir instead. This strawberry kefir soaked with oats, chia seeds with added cinnamon + maple syrup was the perfect combination! It’s 99% lactose-free, gluten-free and made with all non-GMO ingredients. Lifeway also has whole milk kefir, greek nonfat kefir, biokefir, protein kefir, yogurts, cheese and frozen products!
This recipe is packed with protein, calcium and probiotics. Here’s to good health!
I always make sure my breakfasts have a good balance of carbohydrates, fat and protein. The oatmeal is a great source of complex carbs. Chia seeds contain healthy fats and kefir contains protein! Top it off with fresh fruit, nut butter, seeds and granola. You got yourself a nutritious bowl for breakfast!
