If you’re looking for a soft, nourishing, and naturally sweet muffin for your little one, these cottage cheese apple muffins are one of my favorite go-to recipes. They’re made without any added sugar, packed with wholesome ingredients, and have the most tender, moist texture that makes them perfect for babies and toddlers!
I especially love this recipe because it’s such a simple way to sneak in extra nutrition. My toddler doesn’t always drink milk well, so adding cottage cheese into baked goods has been a game changer for us. It’s one of those ingredients that blends right in, but adds so much goodness.
Why Cottage Cheese is So Good for Babies and Toddlers
Cottage cheese is packed with protein to support growth, along with calcium for strong bones and teeth. Using full-fat cottage cheese also provides healthy fats that are essential for brain development and energy.
It’s naturally soft, easy to digest, and a great way to incorporate dairy for toddlers who don’t love drinking milk.
How I Make These Muffins Extra Soft and Moist
I start by blending the cottage cheese until completely smooth. This step makes a huge difference in texture and helps create a creamy base. Then I pour it into a large bowl and mix it with the rest of the ingredients. The result is a soft, moist, and tender muffin that’s easy for little ones to eat.
Naturally Sweetened with Fruit
These muffins are naturally sweetened with finely grated apple, which adds moisture and gentle sweetness without any added sugar.
You can also grate in pear for a variation or combine both. For a fun touch, I add a small sliced strawberry on top before baking. It adds color and makes them more appealing for toddlers.
How to Serve for Babies and Toddlers
These muffins are incredibly versatile depending on your child’s age and stage.
For babies 6 to 9 months, you can serve the muffin whole. The soft texture makes it easy for them to hold and take bites, especially if you’re following a baby-led weaning approach.
For babies 9 to 12 months, you can cut the muffins into small cubes. This helps them practice their pincer grasp and makes it easier to manage bite-sized pieces.
For toddlers 12 months and up, you can serve them halved or whole again depending on their comfort level. At this stage, most toddlers enjoy holding their own muffin and taking bites independently.
Because they’re so soft and moist, they’re very forgiving and easy to adapt for each stage.
How to Serve (By Age)

Serve the muffin whole. The soft texture makes it easy for babies to hold and take bites.
For 9 to 12 months:
