Homemade Play Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup salt
  • 4 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 2 cups lukewarm water
  • 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil or coconut oil
  • Food coloring

Supplies Needed

  • 2 quart pot or bowl
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Wax paper or parchment paper
  • 4 Ziploc bags or airtight containers

Instructions

  • In a 2 quart bowl or pot, add the flour, salt, cream of tartar, lukewarm water, and coconut oil or vegetable oil.
  • Place the mixture over low heat.
  • Continuously stir the mixture as it heats until it begins forming into a soft play dough texture.
  • Keep stirring until the dough fully pulls together.
  • Remove the homemade play dough from heat and place it onto wax paper or parchment paper to cool.
  • Once cooled slightly, divide the dough into 4 equal sections.
  • Place each section into its own Ziploc bag.
  • Add about 7 to 8 drops of food coloring into each bag and knead the dough until the color is fully mixed in.
