This meal is simply sliced beef, onions, rice and a savory sauce tossed in. Pepper lunch originated in Japan. It’s typically served on a sizzling hot plate which gives the meat a sizzle and extra browning!

This beef dish with rice and corn is a simple recipe that comes together quickly so it’s a great weeknight dish! You can also prepare it ahead of time and make extras for leftovers. There’s SO much flavor.
I bought a big pack of shabu beef from Costco for a great price so I’ve never used it for anything other than Shabu itself, Gyudon or Sukiyaki! I’ve seen this recipe with shabu beef and rib eye.
My husband LOVED this dish so much. He got seconds multiple times! I love it when he loves a meal that didn’t take much effort. I feel successful, haha!

Ingredients You’ll Need:
Shabu Beef or Ribeye: I used thinly sliced shabu beef from Costco. You can buy it at your local Asian grocery store. If not, you can also use rib eye, but it’ll just take a bit longer to cook.
Corn: You can use fresh corn, frozen corn or canned corn. The easiest is canned corn. For frozen corn, you’ll have to add it to the pan earlier to cook.
Rice: The best is day old rice, which is always the best option for fried rice so it’s not as mushy.
Sauce: It’s a blend of garlic, savory and sweet. The sauce is an important essential in this dish!
Green Onions: The garnish on top does make a difference!
