Looking for a healthy waffle recipe your toddler will actually eat? These fluffy, no-sugar waffles are made with a mix of whole wheat and all-purpose flour, no added sugar, and simple pantry staples. They’re soft, delicious, and perfect for little hands—and they freeze beautifully for busy mornings!

A Family-Favorite Healthy Waffle Recipe

If you’re a parent, you know how important it is to find toddler-friendly recipes that are both nutritious and quick to prepare. These no-sugar waffles are one of our weekday (and weekend!) staples. I love that they’re made with wholesome ingredients, take minimal effort, and are free from added sugars—something that gives me peace of mind when feeding my little ones.

Mix the dry ingredients ahead of time and store them in an airtight container. In the morning, just add the wet ingredients for a stress-free, homemade breakfast in minutes!

Why This Recipe Works for Toddlers

  • Naturally sweet with no added sugar – These waffles get a subtle sweetness from the vanilla and milk, making them great for young eaters.
  • Soft, fluffy texture – Easy for toddlers to chew, even without teeth!
  • Balanced and customizable – Pair with fruit, yogurt, or nut butter for a complete meal.
  • Great for batch cooking – Double the recipe and freeze extras for busy mornings.

These healthy, no-sugar waffles for toddlers are a game-changer in our home. Whether you’re prepping ahead or cooking fresh in the morning, they’re an easy way to serve a nutritious breakfast that your whole family will enjoy. And let’s be real—watching your toddler enjoy something you made from scratch? That’s the sweetest part.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I make these waffles dairy-free?
Yes! Use any plant-based milk and coconut oil instead of butter.

What kind of flour works best?
I like a 50/50 mix of all-purpose and whole wheat flour, but you can also try oat flour for a softer texture or spelt flour for extra nutrients.

Can I make these into pancakes?
Absolutely. This batter works great on a griddle too—just adjust the cooking time.

Are these waffles good for baby-led weaning?
Yes! They’re soft, sugar-free, and perfect for little hands. Just cut into strips for easy grasping.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour I used 1 cup all-purpose + 1 cup whole wheat
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder (gives them a nice fluffy rise)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1¾ cups milk of choice (dairy, almond, oat, or whatever you like)
  • 2 tablespoons melted coconut oil or unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (adds that classic cozy flavor)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar OPTIONAL if you desire a big of sweetness

Instructions

  • Preheat your waffle iron.
  • In a large bowl, mix the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, and salt. Add sugar if you want a hint of sweetness.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk the wet ingredients: eggs, milk, melted butter or oil, and vanilla extract.
  • Pour the wet mixture into the dry and stir just until combined. Avoid overmixing.
  • Cook the batter in your waffle iron according to its instructions—usually 3 to 5 minutes—until golden and crisp.
  • Serve warm with maple syrup, fresh fruit, nut butter, or yogurt!
