Fall is here, and it’s the perfect time to bring the cozy season into our daily learning! These simple, low-prep workbook activities are a fun way to keep little hands engaged while practicing important early learning skills like fine motor control, pre-writing, and letter recognition!
Below are five fall-themed activities we recently did together as part of our workbook time. Each one is easy to set up, uses basic materials, and can be adapted for different skill levels 🙂
Here is the link to my 8 week activity guide. This 8-week guide offers creatice activities you can do at home with supplies and toys you likely already have at home. I also made matching flashcards for weeks 1-4 and weeks 5-8!
Here are the links to the 3 main supplies I use!
- Sketchbook – It doesn’t bleed through even with sharpie or markers.
- Dot Markers – Use this for color, number or letter recognition. There is so much you can do with these markers!
- Dot Stickers – Use this for color recognition and creative crafting. My toddler loves them!
1. Paper Leaf Tree Craft

For this activity, I gave her strips of red, yellow, and orange construction paper. She ripped them up to resemble “leaves” and glued them onto the tree. This simple craft works on fine motor skills through ripping and gluing, and it’s a great way to introduce fall colors!
Skills practiced: fine motor skills, creativity, color recognition
Materials: construction paper (red, yellow, orange), glue, printed or drawn tree outline
2. Pumpkin Zigzag Tracing

Next, I drew a pumpkin and added six dotted zigzag lines inside for her to trace. Tracing zigzags is an excellent way to strengthen hand control and prepare for future writing. Plus, the pumpkin theme makes it seasonal and fun!
Skills practiced: pre-writing skills, pencil control
Materials: paper, marker or pen, marker or pencil for tracing
3. Fall-Themed Dot Marker Coloring

Then we moved on to a dot marker coloring page. I drew two leaves, an acorn, and a pumpkin, and she colored them using fall colors. Dot markers are a favorite in our house – they’re fun, easy to clean and perfect for encouraging kids to color within the lines!
Skills practiced: hand-eye coordination, color recognition, staying inside the lines
Materials: paper, dot markers
4. Pumpkin Vine Dotting

This activity was super quick and simple. I drew a vine with pumpkins along it, and she used her orange dot marker to dot each pumpkin. She finished it in under a minute, but it’s a great way to reinforce focus and control, even with short tasks!
Skills practiced: focus, hand-eye coordination
Materials: paper, orange dot marker
5. Pumpkin Letter Hunt

Lastly, we did a letter hunt. I split the page into four letters -A, B, C, and D – and drew pumpkins with each letter inside. She dotted the matching letters within each square. This is such a fun way to review letter recognition while keeping the fall theme.
Skills practiced: letter recognition, matching skills
Materials: paper, marker or pen, dot markers
Why I Love These Activities
All of these activities are low-prep, use materials you probably already have at home, and can be done in short bursts—perfect for busy days with little ones. They keep learning playful and seasonal, which always makes workbook time more exciting!
